Autism Awareness Month

All month long for the month of April, we celebrate Autism Awareness Month. This month is meant to focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with Autism. Autism or ASD affects 1 in 68 children and often presents itself differently in each person is all creeds, all religions, all races and both genders.  In order to foster more support & awareness, inclusive education is essential. Children and adults who have Autism are capable of so many amazing things and are more than their diagnosis.

April 2nd is widely known as Autism Awareness Day which is meant to have individual Autism organizations come together all around the world to aid in things like research, diagnoses, treatment, and acceptance for those with a developmental path affected by Autism.

How you can participate in Autism Awareness Month

  • -Get involved with a local Organization; nothing beats hands on learning
  • -Educate yourself, because Autism is a vast spectrum, reading and learning as much as you can is essential
  • -Join in on social media; social media allows for you to “meet” people who have Autism and hear their stories
  • -Donate; research and outreach are essential to helping people understand Autism, anything can help

At the core having this time to focus on Autism, is to ensure that those who are living with Autism can have fully and happy lives as well as educating the public in a meaningful way. Something as simple as a share on social media to something grand like affect legislation are all a part of the journey. Currently there is no cure for Autism however early intervention and treatment, such as Occupational Therapy can greatly improve the quality of life for those with Autism.

For more information about Autism sites like Autism Speaks and Autism Society are excellent. For more of our post be sure to read out blog HERE
